Londolozi, Sabi Sand Reserve

Londolozi, Sabi Sand Reserve, South Africa

The oldest private reserve in South Africa, the Sabi Sand was founded in 1934 and comprises a number of private game reserves. All the private reserves have a strong commitment to conservation and are involved in projects that uplift the local communities. Staying in the Sabi Sand not only guarantees great game viewing and luxury lodges, but also means you can make a difference. Sharing a 50 km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park the Sabi Sand is home to the Big Five. Game viewing is nothing short of sensational especially lion, leopard and other predators.

The foundations of the Londolozi dream were shaped over eighty years ago when two friends - the great grandfathers of the Varty and Taylor clans stood before mighty Sand River for the first time ever. The vision and potential that these two men saw in the virgin bush has endured over the years with those same granite rocks of the river. Today their spirit lives on at Pioneer Camp, Founders Camp, Tree Camp, Varty Camp and Granite Suites.

Although each camp has its own style, character and appeal the Varty family values are everywhere in evidence; in the personalised service, the commitment to conservation, the ambience of simplicity and elegance, and naturally, in the welcome received on arrival.

The camps are in walking distance from each other. The original Sparta Camp, Londolozi Living, the Yoga Deck, the Cubs Den and the Shangaan Village are accessible to all guests.

Life at Londolozi is set by the seasons; the vegetation and the animal behaviour changing with the rains of summer and the chill of winter. With over 16 000 hectares of traversing wilderness, game drives take place at dawn and dusk - no two game drives and no two days are ever the same.

Spectacular Big Five game viewing is only one aspect of the "Londolozi experience". Londolozi is the perfect place to escape from the rigors of everyday existence and with this in mind a host of activities have been created to help recuperate mind, body and spirit. The list is virtually endless: yoga, massage, trail running, the African gym, day walking expeditions, animal tracking adventures, clay pigeon shooting, sleep-outs, fishing, Shangaaan cultural village and learning centre and community visits.

At Londolozi there has always been an emphasis on family and children are welcomed with open arms. Catering for the needs of both the amateur and professional photographer a standard Land Rover has been modified with comfortable adjustable seats that are able to swivel 180 degrees allowing four guests maximum flexibility to achieve unusual camera angles and to create exceptional images. Specialized photographic safaris are available on request.
